There’s always something awesome going on in Waterloo Region! Whether you’re looking to experience some art, enjoy some good grub, put on your dancing shoes, or learn something new, Waterloo is a cultural hub with a ton of great activities for people of all ages to enjoy!

Every week, we’re compiling a list of some of the great entertaining and educational events taking place across the Region! Check it out!

June 13

Waterloo Coin Society Meeting: Once per month, the Region of Waterloo Coin Society gathers for two hours. At this meeting collectors have an opportunity to advance their study/collection while developing lifetime friendships and connections. Guests/visitors are allowed to join anytime. Yearly memberships are inexpensive and come with many benefits. Doors open at 6:30 pm and member dealers are on hand to buy, sell, or appraise. Event takes place the first Tuesday of every month (in this case, June 13th) from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at 510 Dutton Dr.in Waterloo. For more information visit the Waterloo Coin Society website.

June 14

Growing Together: A Neighbourhood Cookbook Project:  As part of the City of Waterloo Artist in Residence Program, join Artist in Residence Barbara Hobot and members of your community on a collaborative community art initiative called “Growing Together: A Neighbourhood Cookbook Project.” Bring along copies of your recipes to be left with the artist, or originals to be scanned/photographed. For more info on the City of Waterloo Artist in Residence program contact Katie Wilde at Katie.wilde@waterloo.ca. This program is taking place throughout the summer at various locations in Waterloo. This particular event takes place June 14th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the L’Harmonie/Vermont Park Neighbourhood Garden (158 Bridgeport Road E., Waterloo).

June 15

Uptown Market: The Uptown Waterloo Market operates every Thursday from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm through until October 26th at the Waterloo Public Square in Uptown Waterloo. The Uptown Market connects you with local farmers and artists. From produce, cheeses, spreads and nuts to artisans and craft vendors, the Uptown Market has something for everyone! Find more information on the Uptown Market on their website HERE! Event takes place every Thursday from 3:00 pm-7:00 pm at Waterloo Public Square (75 King St. S., Waterloo).

Start Ups and Beer: At Start Ups and Beer, drink great beer and support a local charity while you learn about interesting Start Ups in the Region of Waterloo community.  Start Ups and Beer is a free event, with donations accepted for Extend A Family Waterloo Region (http://www.eafwr.on.ca/). Six craft breweries will be on site so that you can have a drink while you learn about six up and coming tech companies in Waterloo Region. You can learn more about the event on the Start Ups and Beer website. Event takes place June 15th from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

June 16

Buck a Shuck Oysters: Ever Friday from 5:00 pm until they are gone, you can enjoy fresh oysters for $1.00 each with the purchase of a craft brew at Descendants Beer & Beverage Co.  Oysters are served with mignonette, lemon, and hot sauce. Oysters come direct from Caudle’s Catch and Matt from Caudle’s will shuck them for you! Come early because they always disappear fast! You can find more info on the Descendant’s Brewery website. Event takes place every Friday (June 16th in particular) at Descendant’s Beer & Beverage Co (319 Victoria St. N., Kitchener).

June 17

KW Symphony House and Garden Tour of Note: Enjoy a self-directed tour of six beautiful homes and gardens in Kitchener, Waterloo, and Heidelberg. In two of the homes, you’ll even get to enjoy the sounds of the KW Symphony and Youth Orchestra! At another home enjoy complimentary refreshments, and at another place a bid on Seal Bid Auction items. Tickets are $30 and all proceeds benefit the KW Symphony. A Taste of Woolwich: A Taste of Woolwich connects Waterloo Region residents with community food partners. The event is a great opportunity to meet local famers, buy and taste local food, and pick up Foodlink’s 2017 Buy Local! Buy Fresh! Map. Attendees will also learn about beekeeping, grilling veggies, and making healthy smoothies at various demonstrations. Learn more on the Woolwich Healthy Communities website. Event takes place Saturday, June 17thfrom 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Elmira Farmer’s Market (24 Church St., Elmira).

Summer Lights Festival:  Each year on the Summer Solstice, the team at Summer Lights hosts an outdoor festival that merges art and technology in the Downtown Kitchener core. It’s one night where art, tech, maker, games, music, theatre, dance, business and community come together for an amazing experience that people of all ages can enjoy. Event takes place Saturday, June 17th from 8:00 pm to 1:00 am beginning at City Hall in Downtown Kitchener.

June 18

Superhero Run for KidsAbility: Join children and youth with special needs at the Superhero Run for KidsAbility for families and running enthusiasts alike. This 1 km walk/run and 5 km timed run/wheelchair race features a costume contest and other superhero themed activities. Check out the KidsAbility website for more information. Event takes place Sunday, June 18th from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm at Exhibition Park in Waterloo (81 London Road W., Waterloo).

Hops for Pops: The Lancaster Smokehouse is proud to present Hops for Pops: A Craft Beer and Local Matters Fest. Adults can sample unique craft beers at this festival while hanging out with their families. The festival offers cider tastings, delicious food trucks, vendors, live music, wagon rides and fun activities for all ages. The $25.00 + HST per person admission cost includes admission to the museum, Heritage Village, and beer festival, 5 beer samples and a souvenir sampling cup. Limited quantities are available.
