2020 Ram 1500 Classic Express Reviews
Posted on October 22, 2020
The Ram 1500 Classic range offers an enticing combination of performance and value. One of the best-selling models in the lineup is the Express, which has recently been racking up impressive sales figures in the mid-size truck ranks. What makes the Express such a popular buy? Read our 2020 Ram 1500 Classic Express review to find out.
The Classic Express is available with a Regular Cab configuration, providing two-door access to a split-bench front row seating up to three, plus a storage bin behind. The cabin sits high up behind an imposingly large hood, giving the Ram a confident and good-looking feel.
Classic Night Edition Features
The Night Edition builds on the good looks of the Ram 1500 Classic by adding black accents and touches across the exterior. The 20" wheels receive a matt black finish, along with the grille and surround, exhaust tips, logo badges, and more.
Each black accent may be a minor improvement, but the overall effect is to produce a pickup that shows it means business.
Under the Hood
The large hood conceals plenty of performance for both the engine configurations available with the Classic Express. As standard, the 3.6L V6 engine provides generous power to get the job done, boasting output figures of 305 horsepower and 269lb-ft of torque.
However, the more dramatic option is the 5.7L HEMI V8 mill which pushes out fully 395 horsepower with 410lb-ft of torque, placing the Express firmly in the high-performance, heavy-duty category.
Towing and Payload
Of course, a pickup's real-world capability is measured by more than raw engine power. Payload and towing capacities are vital for everyday work, and the Express joins other Ram 1500 models with market-leading levels of performance.
Whichever of the two engines you choose, the Express can handle up to 816kg of payload in its 193cm pickup bed. For towing, the V6 model can pull up to 2,164kg, but it's with the V8 that things get really interesting.
With a towing capacity hitting the heights of 7,246kg, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more capable performer than the Classic Express.
Interior Features
The Express may be all about power and performance, but it also offers a surprisingly luxurious interior experience. The 8.4" inch colour touchscreen is fitted with the powerful but user-friendly Uconnect software and is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for easy smartphone integration via USB or Bluetooth.
A Wi-Fi hotspot facility means every passenger can be freely connected, while options such as hands-free communication and a 3.5" Electronic Vehicle Information Centre (EVIC) are unusual additions for a truck in this class.
2020 Ram 1500 Classic Express Review: The Verdict
The Classic Express offers an excellent combination of power and value. It may not have the cutting edge interior of its more expensive siblings in the Ram 1500 range, but it offers a huge amount of pickup performance at a highly attractive price.
If you're looking for a hard-working pickup that won't let you down, the 2020 Ram 1500 Classic Express could be the truck for you.
