2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2021 Toyota 4Runner

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2021 Toyota 4Runner

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2021 Toyota 4Runner are two full-size SUVs that offer actual off-road capability for drivers that want to be able to traverse all types of roads and trails. In a comparison between the two, they both offer many standard, high-tech features, but the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers better value and capability.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the top of the North American SUV class, offering enhanced technology, outstanding off-road capability, best-in-class towing capability, and luxury inside and out. Starting at $44,399, Jeep offers the 2021 Grand Cherokee in 11 model versions across Canada. The base Laredo trim features many upgraded features, including heated front seats, heated steering wheel, power liftgate, and remote start.

The standard engine is a 3.6-litre VVT V6 featuring Stop/Start technology. It delivers 293 horsepower, 260 lb-ft of torque, and 2,812kg towing capability. However, Jeep offers three additional engine options to meet the needs of drivers, including a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine with 707 horsepower, 645 lb-ft of torque, and up to 3,265kg of max towing.

2021 Toyota 4Runner

The 2021 Toyota 4Runner is one of the few large SUVs that are actually able to excel off-road. Its imposing exterior perfectly matches its rugged image and capability. Toyota takes its stance on safety very seriously, packing the 4Runner with standard driver-assist technology, including forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and more.

Starting at $46,200, the 2021 Toyota 4Runner is offered in two model versions in Canada: Trail and SR5. Both are equipped with a 4.0-litre DOHC V6 engine that delivers 270 horsepower and 2,268kg of towing capability. Standard features include an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, a roof basket, trailer hitch, SiriusXM, and more.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2021 Toyota 4Runner Features

While they are both full-size SUVs with incredible off-road capability, there are a few key differences between the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2021 Toyota 4Runner.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee  Feature  2021 Toyota 4Runner
 3.6-litre VVT V6  Standard Engine  4.0-litre DOHC V6
 293HP  Standard Horsepower  270HP
 2,812kg  Standard Towing Capability  2,268kg
5 passengers  Max Seating  7 passengers
1,072kg  Cargo Space (behind last row)  1,337kg
 $44,399  Starting Price  $46,200

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers more power and capability than the 2021 Toyota 4Runner at a lower price. Jeep also offers many additional model configurations and engine options for the Grand Cherokee, allowing drivers to customise the vehicle to their specifications, while Toyota only offers two models of the 4Runner. Currently, the 4Runner is larger and offers more seating, but it is inferior in every other way, and a redesign slated for 2022 will bring a third row of seating to the Grand Cherokee.
