April 17

Sherwood Hume Memorial Steam Train from Market: A dedication in the memory of Sherwood Hume, a Steam Train enthusiast. Join Waterloo Central Railway on a journey to St. Jacob’s while they tell the story of Sherwood Hume. Hume is a 57 year member and Director of the Ontario Steam and Antiques Preservation Association. Takes place on April 17th from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm, departing from the St. Jacob’s Market (878 Weber St. N, Waterloo).
 

April 18

Run to Quit: An innovative quit smoking program that pairs the Canadian Cancer Society’s Run to Quit program with the Running Room’s Learn to Walk or Run 5 km clinics. Running has been shown to help smokers cope with discomfort and craving through it’s simple, step by step approach. Build up walking/running stamina while cutting down and quitting smoking. Begins April 18th at 7:00 pm and runs through to June 22nd.
 

April 19

Community Influencer Networking Event: Join Leadership Waterloo Region and their Alumni for networking at Turtle Jack’s to meet community influencers from across the Region. This event takes place April 19th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Turtle Jack’s (4289 King St. E., Kitchener). Find more info on Leadership Waterloo’s Region’s website.
 
Startup Business Basics at the Waterloo Region Small Business Center: Join the Waterloo Region Small Business Center to learn the necessary steps to start your business! Includes how to assess your entrepreneurial readiness, the various forms of business ownership, government regulations, business planning, budgeting, marketing and registering for HST. April 20

St. Jacob’s Farmer’s Market: Every week, hundreds of vendors bring you farm fresh foods from Ontario, crafts, imported goods, jewelry and more, plus delicious ready to eat foods in a variety of buildings as well as outdoors. The St Jacob’s Market operates every Thursday and Saturday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm year round, with a Summer Market taking place from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm June 13th to August 29th! The Market is located at 878 Weber St. N., Waterloo.
 

April 21

Kids First Aid Course for Parents: Kids First Aid offers the only first aid courses delivered by paramedics, designed to teach parents and caregivers how to respond calmly and confidently in the ten most common emergency situations. For $55-$65, parents will learn how to respond to emergencies in informative and engaging sessions, as well as practicing valuable first aid skills that could save a child’s life. Event takes place April 21st from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at The Museum (10 King St. W., Kitchener). Check out the Eventbrite listing for more info.
 
Concert – Courage My Love and the New Electric: Check out Kitchener natives Courage My Love and The New Electric live at Maxwell’s Music House. Hailing from Kitchener, Courage My Love has been nominated for the 2014 Juno Awards, and have released multiple albums. The New Electric, hailing from Calgary, are the “next big thing” to come out of Canada’s pop scene with a dedicated fan base across the country. Make sure to wear your dancing shoes! This concert takes place Friday, April 21st at Maxwell’s in Waterloo (35 University Ave., E., Waterloo)
 

April 22 & April 23

Earth Day in the City of Waterloo: Join hundreds of people in the City of Waterloo at the City of Waterloo Earth Day celebrations at Westmount Sports Park. Dig in and help plant 150 native trees and shrubs, and learn 150 fun facts about nature from local exhibitors. One hundred and fifty lucky participants will take home a native tree as part of the City of Waterloo’s Living Legacy 150th Tree Planting program, plus you can enter to win one of three Grand River Park Membership Prizes. Event takes place April 22nd from, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Westmount Sports Park (440 Westmount Rd., N., Waterloo). For more info check out the City of Waterloo website!
 
Scouts Canada E Waste Collection and Bottle Drive: The Scouts are celebrating Earth Day by hosting the 5th annual E Waste Collection and Bottle Drive for two days at the Canadian Tire Parking lot at 400 Weber St. N. in Waterloo. Do your part for the environment by donating your old, broken, or used electronics, as well as any liquor, wine, cooler and beer bottles and cans. The Scouts will also be hosting a BBQ. Event takes place 8:00 am to 3:00 pm on April 22 and 23rd at the Canadian Tire Parking lot (400 Weber St. N., Waterloo). For more info check out the Eventbrite listing.
